MIDLAND, TX – The Midland ISD school board is set to decide the fate of the superintendent Tuesday night.
The Midland Independent School District announced last Friday that they were considering terminating the contract of current superintendent, Orlando Riddick.
Although the superintendent's job hangs in the balance the school board says the district will continue business as normal.
“Operations of the district continue, with each team member carrying out their assigned duties,” Elana Ladd, the district’s chief communications officer told MRT “Now, and at all times, each staff member in the district is responsible for executing their daily responsibilities."
On Tuesday, August 25, the school board will meet to decide the fate of the superintendent. Riddick will not be in attendance but will instead be taking earned vacation days.
If they decide to terminate him, he will have 15 days to request a hearing from an independent hearing examiner. If he does not request a hearing, the board could then take final action at the next board meeting. If terminated early the district will have to pay the remainder of his contract which ends in June of 2022.
Riddick's current salary is set at $275,000 annually.
