Turbulent Texas GOP Convention Elects Allen West as Chairman

HOUSTON, TX – A turbulent and tense Republican Party of Texas Convention elected former Florida Congressman Allen West as its new chairman after a delayed and confusing virtual convention held over the weekend.

West easily defeated incumbent Chairman James Dickey in a vote that began Sunday night and lasted until the early morning hours Monday.

West declared victory around 3:30 a.m. and Dickey conceded about an hour later.

Retired Lt. Colonel West was in San Angelo recently and discussed the state of the GOP in Texas and nationally.

Here is the video interview with San Angelo LIVE! Editor-in-Chief Yantis Green.

Col. West also spoke with LIVE! reporter Manny Diaz about the controversial petition to change the name of Robert E. Lee Middle School.
