Prosecutor Tonya Ahlschwede endorses J. Nick Hanna for Sheriff

MASON, TX — Tonya Ahlschwede, 452nd District Attorney, recently announced her support for J. Nick Hanna for Tom Green County sheriff in the Republican primary.

Ahlschwede, of Mason, organized the 452nd DA's office and has worked several high-profile cases in her region of McCulloch, Mason, Menard, Kimble and Edwards Counties, some impacting the San Angelo area. Of note was the conviction of Shaelan Derek Rodgers who was accused of dealing "A Pound of Meth a Day."  Ahlschwede also won the conviction of Jason Alan Pepperdine, who abandoned his 22-year-old mistress, leaving her to die alone on the side of the road near Rochelle after a single-vehicle crash. She was also involved with attempting to solve the Murder in Rocksprings that we highlighted in a three-part series in 2015.

In her endorsement, Ahlschwede stated:

“I’ve worked with Nick Hanna on many occasions. He does a fantastic job in law enforcement investigations, which is very important. As a prosecutor, I want to know I have a solid case, and with Nick Hanna I always know I have an extremely solid case. I support Nick Hanna for Tom Green County sheriff, and I urge you to support him, too.”

J. Nick Hanna worked cases with Ahlschwede during Hanna's 30 years of service in law enforcement that culminated with his tenure as a Texas Ranger. Hanna is the current chief deputy in the Tom Green County sheriff’s office. Prior to that, he was a Texas Ranger for 16 years and served as a Texas State Trooper and on the police forces of two West Texas communities.

Hanna is a candidate in the Republican primary for Tom Green County sheriff. Early voting runs from February 18 through the 28. Election day is March 3.
