District Judge Barbara Walther is Retiring

SAN ANGELO, TX -- 51st District Judge Barbara Walther announced Monday she is retiring.

Judge Walther has served for 31 years.  She sent a letter to the other judges and attorneys.

Here's what the letter said:

"Dear Friends and Colleagues

I have decided to begin the process of taking Senior Judge status. I have over 31 years of service as either a District Judge or an Associate Judge.  Senior Judge status will allow me to continue to do what I love and serve our community. Senior Judge status will also allow me to choose when I work and to be able to spend time with my family and travel.

I will take Senior Judge status effective November 1, 2018.

I appreciate your support through the years and I feel fortunate to be blessed with so many friends and colleagues.  I look forward to being able to continue working with all of you.

Barbara Walther"

Judge Walther's term expires in 2020.  She was elected to the court in 1992.  Judge Walther holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas and a Law degree from Southern Methodist University.

No word yet on whether a judge will be appointed to complete her term or whether a special election will be held.
