Valdez Wins Runoff to Face Governor Greg Abbott in November

Lupe Valdez will face Republican Governor Greg Abbott in the November general election.  Unofficial final totals from Tuesday's runoff election show Valdez with 53.05 percent of ballots cast to Andrew White's 46.94 percent or 227,577 votes for Valdez and 201,356 for White. 

On the Republican side impacting Tom Green County, Mike Toth won the runoff with 52.8 percent of the ballots cast in the Third Court of Appeals place six race.

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Voter turnout in Texas for the Primary runoff in the Democrat and Republican primaries is historically low and today was no exception.  

As we reported at the end of early voting Friday, According to Tom Green County Elections Administrator Vona Hudson,  and only 410 out of 64,471 voters cast ballots in person for the Democratic and Republican Primary Runoff elections in Tom Green County.  Her office received 1,060 ballots by mail for a total of 1,470 votes or roughly 2.3 percent of registered voters casting ballots early.  That makes each ballot cast so far worth about 44 votes.

In Tom Green County 578 Democrats requested mail in ballots while 1,174 Republicans requested mail in ballots for the runoff election.  

Early voting in Tom Green County shows the Democratic candidate for Governor with Lupe Valdez at 52 percent and Andrew White at 48 percent in early voting.  

In the Republican Primary, Tom Green County voters favored Mike Toth at 57 percent over Donna Davidson at 43 percent for 3rd  Court of Appeals Justice, Place 6.

Statewide, The race for the Democratic Nominee for Governor is too close to call.  At this time, Lupe Valdez has 52 percent of the votes cast to Andrew White’s 48 percent.
