Local attorney Brad Goodwin has confirmed he will be a candidate seeking election as Judge for 391st District Court in the March Republican primary. Judge Tom Gossett has announced that he will not seek reelection.
The 391st Court hears felony criminal, civil, and juvenile cases.
Goodwin has practiced law since 1992 and has held positions including Felony Prosecutor for the El Paso County District Attorney's office and was Chief of the Juvenile and Gang Prosecution Unit for the Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney's office. In private practice Goodwin has represented clients around the state ranging from individuals and families to Fortune 500 companies.
Goodwin returned home to San Angelo in 2004 and practiced alongside his father, late local attorney Ron Goodwin, until his retirement. Goodwin then formed his firm Goodwin & Scott, where he practices today.
"The work of the 391st District Court has a tremendous impact on our community. I have a great deal of direct experience with the types of cases this court is responsible for. I believe that this experience would make me a strong Judge for this court and I would be excited to serve Tom Green County. So, with the encouragement and support of my family and friends, I plan to seek the nomination."
Goodwin's wife Toni is the Volunteer Coordinator for Hospice of San Angelo. They attend First United Methodist Church of San Angelo, where he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees and on Church Council.
They are also a part of the Emmaus community.
He is the son of Sharon Goodwin.
Goodwin's professional associations include: State Bar of Texas, Past President of Tom Green County Bar Association, Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, Member of the State Bar College, State Bar of Texas Litigation Section, and Texas Federal Courts.
Goodwin's past and current board membership in civic organizations includes: West Texas Rehab, West Texas Lighthouse for the Blind, Boy Scouts of America, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. He has also served as General Counsel for MHMR Services for the Concho Valley.
Steve Cecil of San Angelo has agreed to be put forward to serve as Treasurer.
