Interim City Clerk Hired to Fill Post

Bryan Kendrick, who has been serving as interim City Clerk since Oct. 29, has been hired to fill the post.

City Manager Daniel Valenzuela announced the hiring at last week’s City Council meeting after gaining the Council’s consensus on the move, as required by City charter. As City Clerk, Kendrick will be chiefly responsible for the City’s records management, elections administration, public information requests, execution and custody of official records, and the crafting of City Council agendas and minutes.

Kendrick joined the City as deputy city clerk in January 2009. He served as a senior budget analyst from January 2010 to August 2011. During all but four months of that span, he concurrently served as the internal auditor on an interim basis. He returned to the City Clerk’s office as deputy clerk from September 2011 to March 2013. Most recently, he worked as the business/finance analyst for San Angelo Regional Airport.

Kendrick succeeds Alicia Ramirez, who joined the City of Buda as its City Secretary.

“I’m excited to build on my predecessor’s past successes in the Office of the City Clerk,” Kendrick said. “I look forward to leading this office to a new level of efficiency and customer service for our internal departments, vendors, City Council members and, most importantly, our citizens.”

Kendrick’s time as interim city clerk earned him the job, Valenzuela said.

“Over the past three months, Bryan has impressed his colleagues and our citizens with an approach that prioritizes customer service, professionalism, efficiency and transparency,” Valenzuela said. “That’s exactly the approach the city clerk’s job demands.”

Kendrick is already involved in two matters that will greatly impact the future of San Angelo’s municipal government: a review and possible updating of the City charter – the document that guides much of what municipal government does – and the May 9 City Council election during which four of the body’s seven seats will be filled.
