Monster Catfish Caught in Small Town Pond

BRONTE, TX – A massive catfish was caught in Old City Lake in Bronte, TX last week by a local high school student.

Hunter Hortenstine and his friend Parker Bearden out of boredom went to the local lake outside of the Singing Winds Golf Course on July 21.

The boys baited their hooks in hopes to catch bass but after 10 minutes Hortenstine felt a a bite.

"I felt my line come tight and I set the hook," said Hortenstine. "It didn't budge. Figuring I had hooked a tree I began to try to break the line."

This is when the drop on Horenstine's reel started shooting out line instantly letting the boys know they had a bite.

"After about 10 minutes we got him up to the bank and realized it was a monster," said Hortenstine. "He bottomed out our scale but our estimates show him to be between 65 and 75 pounds."

I'm glad to see those young fellas release that 'old' fella back into his home. I've caught a lot of flatheads in my day, but only one over 50 lbs. Great job guys!!
