Flood Watch Issued for Concho Valley and Surrounding Areas

SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the Concho Valley, Heartland, Northern Edwards Plateau, Northwest Hill Country and portions of the Big Country south of Interstate 20.

The watch is in effect through this afternoon and evening, with a line of thunderstorms forecast to move east across the region later today and continue into early Wednesday morning. Heavy rainfall on already wet soils may lead to flash flooding.

Forecasters expect rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches to be common, with a few locations seeing as much as 5 inches. The heavy rain and runoff could cause flash flooding, especially in low-lying spots, city streets and areas with poor drainage.

The National Weather Service in San Angelo urges residents never to drive onto roadways covered in water and never to attempt to walk, swim or drive through flowing floodwaters.

Officials advise: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
