Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued North of San Angelo

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo issued a severe thunderstorm warning Tuesday for areas just north and northeast of San Angelo, including Bronte, Rowena and Miles. 

The warning is in effect until 1:30 p.m. CDT. Quarter-sized hail and winds up to 60 mph are possible. 

The warned area covers parts of the Concho Valley, including the communities of Maverick, Tennyson and Orient. It affects a population of 3,686, along with eight schools and no hospitals. 

New storms were developing across the Concho Valley just north of San Angelo from Grape Creek to Miles as of early afternoon, the NWS reported. Additional storms are likely to develop farther south into San Angelo through 2 p.m. and could reach severe levels with large hail and heavy rainfall as the main concerns.

“Residents of the Concho Valley including San Angelo should stay alert for possible warnings through the afternoon hours,” the NWS reported. 

Storms across the Big Country had dissipated earlier, forecasters stated. The weather service asked residents to report any hail or high winds.
