Flood Advisory Issued for Parts of West Central Texas

SAN ANGELO, TX — A flood advisory was issued Tuesday afternoon for portions of west central Texas, including Coke, Runnels and Tom Green counties, as heavy rain from thunderstorms caused minor flooding. The National Weather Service in San Angelo said the advisory is in effect until 3:45 p.m.

Doppler radar showed 0.5 to 1 inch of rain had already fallen by 12:39 p.m., with another 0.75 to 1.5 inches possible through the afternoon. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in low-lying areas and poor drainage spots, with water reported over some roadways.

Affected locations include northeastern San Angelo, Miles, Orient, Tennyson, Grape Creek, O.C. Fisher Reservoir, San Angelo State Park, Rowena and Harriet.

The advisory also covers several low-water crossings: FM 1692 at Concho River, The Draw and Sales Branch; Saynor at Mule Creek; River Road at Indian Creek; and County Road 364, County Road 194 and Red Bank at Red Bank Creek. Also affected are Poverty Canyon and Mule Creek Road at Mule Creek.

The National Weather Service warned that most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Officials urged motorists to “turn around, don’t drown” and avoid driving through flooded roads.
