Scattered Storms Move Through Region This Morning; Cooler Weather Follows

SAN ANGELO, TX — Scattered thunderstorms crossed the Edwards Plateau, Hill Country, and Concho Valley early Wednesday.

The NWS in San Angelo placed the region under a marginal risk for severe weather, with the strongest storms capable of producing hail up to quarter size, damaging winds up to 60 mph and frequent lightning. The storms were concentrated roughly south of a line from Brownwood to San Angelo to Ozona.

A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. CDT for northern Kimble and southern Mason counties. The National Weather Service reported that the second of two strong morning storms — which earlier dropped tennis ball-size and larger hail in Junction — has weakened but is still capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds up to 60 mph as it tracks across the area. The first storm has pushed into Llano County.

After the morning activity, mostly cloudy skies are expected with highs in the low to mid-80s — slightly cooler than Tuesday. In San Angelo, the NWS forecasts a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 a.m., becoming partly sunny with a high near 79. North-northeast winds of 5 to 10 mph will become west in the afternoon.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 55.

Cooler conditions are forecast for Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 71. Temperatures will warm again Friday and climb into the upper 80s to low 90s over the weekend, well above normal for early May, the NWS said.

San Angelo highs are expected to reach 82 Friday, 89 Saturday and 89 Sunday, with continued warm weather into next week, according to the extended outlook. Overnight lows will remain in the low to mid-60s.
