SAN ANGELO, TX — A local youth has submitted a Rio Grande Cichlid caught on Oakes Street for consideration as a new waterbody record, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials.

Michael Rodriguez caught the fish, which weighed 0.4 pounds and measured 8 inches in length, the department's Inland Fisheries office in San Angelo said in a social media post. No prior waterbody records for the species exist on the TPWD website.

Rodriguez submitted the catch for pending certification under the department's Angler Recognition Program.
