SAN ANGELO, TX — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 2 a.m. CDT Thursday for most of the Big Country, Concho Valley and Edwards Plateau regions, the National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo announced Wednesday evening.
Storms are beginning to develop just west of the Concho Valley and Big Country and are moving eastward, forecasters said.
The watch covers areas including Abilene, San Angelo, Sweetwater, Snyder, Big Lake, Ozona, Sonora, Brady, Coleman and surrounding communities. It affects a population of about 393,419 people across 298 schools and 27 hospitals.
Primary threats include a couple of tornadoes possible, scattered hail up to tennis ball size, and scattered wind gusts up to 80 mph.
Residents in the watch area should monitor weather updates closely, as conditions can change rapidly with developing thunderstorms. Those in the affected regions are advised to have a plan in place for severe weather, including access to safe shelter.
