SAN ANGELO, TX – Gusty winds and dry conditions will lead to an increased risk of wildfire spread in San Angelo and surrounding areas Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Fire weather conditions are expected to be elevated from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday as south winds gust over 30 mph, with humidity levels dropping into the 20-30% range. With dormant grasses and brush, any fires that ignite could spread rapidly.

Residents are urged to take precautions, including ensuring that chains are not dragging from vehicles, avoiding driving on dry grass, refraining from outdoor burning, and properly disposing of cigarette butts.
In addition to the fire risk, temperatures will fluctuate over the next several days. Highs on Thursday and Friday will be in the mid-70s/80s, with gusty winds continuing into Friday. A cold front is expected to move through late Friday night, bringing cooler temperatures for the weekend. Highs will drop into the mid-50s by Saturday, with lows reaching the low 40s.

The forecast for Wednesday includes sunny conditions with a high near 66 degrees and calm winds. Partly cloudy skies are expected overnight, with a low around 44 and southeast winds at 5 to 10 mph.
