Extreme Cold Warning Issued for West-Central Texas

 

SAN ANGELO – The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for all of west-central Texas, with dangerously low temperatures expected from Tuesday evening through Thursday at noon.

Overnight temperatures will drop into the single digits and teens, with wind chill values as low as zero to -10 degrees at times. Forecasters warn that frostbite and hypothermia are possible if precautions are not taken.

On Wednesday and Thursday mornings, wind chills will be especially dangerous for those waiting at bus stops. San Angelo is forecasted to experience wind chills as low as 1 degree above zero Wednesday morning, with Haskell seeing the lowest at -11 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for multiple days, with areas in the Big Country likely to see a prolonged freeze of up to 72 hours.

Residents are advised to limit time outdoors, wear layers, cover exposed skin, and protect outdoor pipes.
