SAN ANGELO, TX – West Texans can expect a brief warm-up today before an Arctic front brings bitterly cold temperatures to the region this weekend.
The National Weather Service predicts highs in the lower to mid-60s across the area today, with west winds shifting south at 5 to 10 mph. Partly cloudy skies will accompany the slightly above-average temperatures.
Friday will bring even warmer conditions, with highs reaching the upper 60s to mid-70s, propelled by gusty southwest winds up to 30 mph. However, late Friday night into Saturday, an Arctic front will sweep through.
Minimum temperatures by Sunday night are expected to plummet into the teens and low 20s, with San Angelo forecasted to hit 23°F. The bitter cold will persist into the middle of next week, with daytime highs struggling to climb above the mid-30s in many areas.
