San Angelo and Abilene Experience Hottest October on Record

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - The National Weather Service reported that October 2024 was the hottest October ever recorded for both Abilene and San Angelo, with Abilene’s records dating back to 1885 and San Angelo’s to 1907.

Abilene’s average temperature for the month was 73.6 degrees, 6.6 degrees above normal, while San Angelo averaged 72.5 degrees, 5.4 degrees above normal.

In addition to record-breaking temperatures, both cities saw minimal rainfall. San Angelo received only a trace of rain, making it tied for the third driest October on record. Abilene fared slightly better with 0.27 inches of rain, ranking as the city’s 11th driest October. Abilene’s rainfall was 2.56 inches below normal, while San Angelo’s was 2.42 inches below the October average.

The average high temperatures were also well above normal, with Abilene reaching an average high of 86.4 degrees (7.1 degrees above normal) and San Angelo at 88 degrees (7.5 degrees above normal). The October low temperatures averaged 60.9 degrees for Abilene and 57 degrees for San Angelo, both above historical averages.

This warm and dry October continues a trend of above-normal temperatures and below-average precipitation in both cities throughout 2024.
