Tropical Storm Expected to Strengthen into Hurricane by Midweek, Little Impact on West Texas

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Tropical Storm Francine is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the northwestern Gulf Coast by Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. 

Though West Central Texas is expected to remain unaffected, travelers to the Texas Coast and Louisiana are advised to monitor weather updates closely.

The NWS issued a tropical storm advisory at 10 a.m. on Monday, warning of increased risks to parts of the Upper Texas and Louisiana coastlines. A Storm Surge Watch is currently in effect for these areas, where life-threatening storm surges are expected by Wednesday or Wednesday night.

A Hurricane Watch has also been issued for southern Louisiana, where hurricane-force winds could reach damaging levels as early as Wednesday. Heavy rainfall and the risk of flash flooding will affect regions from northeast Mexico to the Upper Texas Coast and into southern Louisiana and Mississippi through Thursday morning.
