SAN ANGELO, TX - San Angelo residents should prepare for a wet and potentially hazardous Labor Day weekend as the National Weather Service forecasts significant rainfall and thunderstorms across the region, beginning today and continuing through Monday.
Starting today, there is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with high temperatures reaching near 94°F. Rainfall amounts are expected to be minimal, but higher totals are possible in thunderstorms. Tonight, the chance of showers and thunderstorms increases to 60%, with temperatures dropping to around 72°F.
Saturday will see an escalation in rainfall, with a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. North-northeast winds will blow at around 5 mph, with highs near 89°F. Saturday night’s precipitation chances decrease slightly to 50%, with partly cloudy skies and lows around 72°F.
The rain will persist into Sunday and Labor Day, with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms each day. Highs will range from the mid-80s to upper 80s, with the potential for localized flash flooding due to widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches, and possibly higher in some areas.
The NWS has issued an alert for hazardous driving conditions this weekend, urging residents to avoid driving on flooded roads and to exercise caution if travel is necessary. The rain is expected to continue into the early part of next week, with daily chances of showers and thunderstorms through at least Tuesday.
In addition to the rain, temperatures will be cooler due to increased cloud cover and a stalled cold front, providing some relief from the typical late-summer heat.
