Farmers’ Almanac Predicts Unusual Winter for Texas in 2025

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Farmers’ Almanac has released its extended weather forecast for Winter 2025, predicting a “Wet Winter Whirlwind” with varying conditions across the United States.

However, Texans should prepare for a unique season, as the forecast indicates above-average temperatures and potentially warmer conditions than typically expected.

According to the Almanac, Texas and the Southern Plains, including western Kansas, Oklahoma, and parts of Nebraska and New Mexico, are set to experience a warmish winter with temperatures expected to be above average. This prediction contrasts with other regions of the U.S., which are forecasted to endure colder and more turbulent weather.

The winter season officially begins with the winter solstice on December 21, 2024, and will be influenced by the development of La Niña, a climate pattern associated with cooler ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific. La Niña is expected to have an impact, contributing to the warmer-than-usual conditions across Texas, the Almanac states.

While much of the nation braces for extreme cold, particularly in the Northern Plains and Great Lakes region, Texans can anticipate a relatively mild winter. The Pacific Northwest, in contrast, is forecasted to experience "unseasonably chilly" weather, and the Southwest will see average winter temperatures.

Despite the warmer outlook for Texas, the Almanac has “red-flagged” the final week of January for potential winter storms in the eastern half of the country, though Texas is less likely to be severely impacted by these events.

The Farmers' Almanac extended weather forecast is a tradition that dates back to 1818.

For over 200 years, the Farmers’ Almanac has been providing long-range weather forecasts, using a "proprietary formula" based on celestial events and meteorological conditions.

"Yes, nature throws us a curveball from time to time, but it doesn't stop us from going out on a limb to not only predict what the weather may bring up to a year in advance but to also put it in print," information from the Almanac stated.
