SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Angelo/Abilene has issued a heat advisory for the Big Country this afternoon, with temperatures expected to reach dangerous levels.
The advisory, in effect through early evening, warns that heat index values will soar between 105 and 107 degrees. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of non-alcoholic beverages.
The forecast shows areas like San Angelo, Ballinger, Abilene, and Sweetwater hitting temperatures ranging from 100 to 103 degrees.
The NWS forecasts mostly sunny skies with winds out of the south to southeast at 15 to 25 mph, providing a slight relief from the intense heat.
The extended forecast continues to show elevated temperatures with significant impacts expected throughout the week:
- Thursday: Mostly sunny with highs from the upper 90s to around 106 degrees. Breezy south winds at 10 to 20 mph.
- Friday: Similar conditions with highs again reaching the upper 90s to around 106 degrees, with south winds at 5 to 10 mph.
- Saturday: Partly cloudy with highs from 100 to around 105 degrees. Slight chance of thunderstorms mainly across the Big Country and Heartland. Southeast winds at 5 to 10 mph.
- Sunday: Partly cloudy with highs in the upper 90s to around 103 degrees. Slight chance of thunderstorms south of Sterling City to Brownwood line. Light and variable winds.
- Monday: Partly cloudy with highs from the upper 90s to around 103 degrees. Southeast winds at 5 to 10 mph.
