Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Expected Across West-Central Texas

SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Angelo has issued warnings for potential thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across West-Central Texas, starting this afternoon and extending into next week.

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop across the Big Country by mid to late afternoon and then track south into portions of the Concho Valley and Heartland late this afternoon and evening. The main concerns will be strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, and brief heavy rainfall.

Looking ahead, the probability of at least one inch of rain from Sunday through Wednesday morning is significant, especially south of I-20, where chances range from 70% to 80%.

An upper trough, combined with a weak cold front moving in on Sunday, will increase the likelihood of thunderstorms through early next week. The most substantial rain chances are forecasted for Sunday into Tuesday, with potential localized flooding due to heavy rainfall.

The temperature outlook shows a gradual cooling trend, with highs expected to dip into the 80s by Monday and remain below normal through much of next week. Abilene’s high is predicted to drop from 98°F on Saturday to 83°F on Monday, while San Angelo will see a decrease from 99°F to 85°F over the same period.

The extended forecast highlights numerous showers and thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday, with impacts elevated due to heavy rain potential. Conditions will slightly improve mid-week, although scattered showers and thunderstorms are still possible.
