SAN ANGELO, TX — A Granbury fisherman has been credited with catching a world-record bass at O.H. Ivie.
The reservoir, located about 45 miles east of San Angelo, is highly regarded among fishermen with nearly 350 ShareLunker bass pulled from the lake since 2020.
Kyle Hall's 15-pound, 13-ounce catch on March 18 was particularly notable, however.
It was the 37th largest bass recorded in Texas history, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife, and it is the heaviest bass in Texas to be genetically verified as a pure Florida largemouth bass.
The International Gamefish Association announced changes last month to its bass world records, including making Florida bass eligible.
The IGFA awarded Hall as the first world-record holder for Florida bass earlier this week.
Hall submitted his catch for spawning purposes to the Toyota ShareLunker Program. The fish successfully spawned with a male descendant of another Legacy Class ShareLunker at the TPWD's Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, and the offspring were stocked into the public reservoirs of Texas that contributed Legacy Class ShareLunkers this season.
