San Angelo State Park’s O.C. Fisher At 1.2% Capacity

SAN ANGELO, TX — O.C. Fisher Reservoir is critically low, with water levels at just 1.2% capacity, according to San Angelo State Park.

The reservoir's low level presents challenges for recreational activities. 

Park officials have issued a warning discouraging hand launching of kayaks, canoes, and other small boats due to the lengthy, muddy walk from the bottom of the boat ramp to the water’s edge. 

Additionally, recreational swimming, wading, and floating are not recommended for the same reasons.

Vehicles are not permitted off of the cement portion of the boat ramps.

The lake will never hold water until one of the flood gates is fixed. Decades ago during a flood the floodgates were opened. Upon closing of the floodgates one was severely damaged by a tree log most likely and it has been constantly leaking ever since.

The core of engineers are aware of this but, San Angelo being the redheaded step child of West Texas with no real influence in politics because of district lines drawn out the way they are the floodgates will never be repaired.
