San Angelo Breaks Heat Record, Heat Advisory In Effect

SAN ANGELO, TX  — San Angelo has broken its record high temperature for today, reaching 108 degrees at Mathis Field Airport.

This surpasses the previous record of 107 degrees set in 1916, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

At the time of this reporting, the NWS also stated that San Angelo is one of the hottest places in the United States right now.

In light of the extreme heat, the NWS has issued a Heat Advisory, effective from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

This includes counties such as Sterling, Coke, Runnels, Irion, Tom Green, Concho, Crockett, Schleicher, Sutton, Coleman, Brown, McCulloch, San Saba, Menard, Kimble, and Mason.

The NWS warns that the high temperatures and humidity may lead to heat-related illnesses.

They urge residents to take precautionary measures such as staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and children.

Additionally, the advisory emphasizes never leaving children or pets in enclosed vehicles, as interiors can quickly reach lethal temperatures.
