NWS: Hail, Flooding Possible Across West Central Texas

 

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The National Weather Service office in San Angelo is advising Concho Valley residents to brace for unsettled weather as scattered thunderstorms loom this afternoon, evening, and overnight. The forecast warns of potential hazards including large hail, frequent lightning, and brief gusty winds. Additionally, there is a risk of locally heavy rainfall leading to minor flooding.

Looking ahead, Sunday could see showers and thunderstorms, with lightning posing a significant risk. Locally heavy rainfall and minor flooding remain possible.

Today's Forecast

  • Afternoon: Showers likely, possibly accompanied by a thunderstorm, especially after 1 pm. Expect cloudy conditions with temperatures reaching around 74°F. East winds at 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation stands at 70%, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch likely.

  • Tonight: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms persists, with temperatures dropping to around 64°F. Cloudy skies prevail with east winds at 10 to 15 mph. Additional rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch possible.

Sunday's Outlook

  • Morning: Showers likely, with the possibility of a thunderstorm before 1 pm, followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms after. Mostly cloudy skies with temperatures peaking near 84°F. Winds transitioning from east-southeast to south-southwest at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%, with new rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts in thunderstorms.

  • Sunday Night: Partly cloudy skies expected, with temperatures dropping to around 63°F. Southeast winds at 5 to 10 mph, becoming southwest after midnight.

Monday's Forecast

  • Daytime: Sunny conditions with temperatures rising to about 88°F. West winds at 5 to 10 mph, shifting to north-northwest in the morning. Showers and thunderstorms are anticipated to increase throughout the day, with the potential for large hail in some areas.

  • Overnight: Additional chances for showers and thunderstorms expected as impulses pass over the region.

As the week progresses, Wednesday could bring another round of severe thunderstorms fueled by moisture from the Gulf and a passing shortwave. Thursday sees a cold front moving through, possibly triggering isolated thunderstorms, with Friday expected to bring warmer and drier conditions.
