Fire & Rain: Typical Rodeo Weather Only Hotter

 

SAN ANGELO, Texas – A Rangeland Fire Danger Statement has been issued for the western half of our area, alongside a Red Flag Warning for Crockett County, effective from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. this afternoon. These warnings come as elevated to critical fire weather conditions are anticipated to prevail through the weekend.

According to forecasts, the western Big Country, Concho Valley, and Northern Edwards Plateau regions will experience heightened fire risks due to dry conditions and breezy winds. Residents are urged to exercise caution and adhere to fire safety guidelines.

Looking ahead, there's a chance for thunderstorms on Monday afternoon into Tuesday, with isolated strong to severe storms possible. However, before the potential showers, expect today to be sunny with a high near 86 degrees Fahrenheit. A south southwest wind is predicted to increase to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon, possibly gusting as high as 30 mph.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy with a low around 60, accompanied by a breezy south southeast wind of 15 to 20 mph.

Saturday will start mostly cloudy, gradually clearing by mid-morning with a high near 83. Winds are forecasted to be breezy, initially from the south southwest at 15 to 20 mph, becoming westward in the afternoon with gusts up to 30 mph.

As Saturday night sets in, expect mostly clear skies with a low around 47. Winds will remain breezy, diminishing from a westward direction at 15 to 20 mph to 5 to 10 mph after midnight, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Sunday's outlook is sunny with a high near 80 and a west wind of 5 to 15 mph. Sunday night will be mostly clear with a low around 50 and a south southwest wind of 5 to 15 mph.

On Monday, there's a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 PM, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 86. Winds will be southerly, starting at 5 to 10 mph and increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon, with gusts up to 25 mph.

By Monday night, the chance of showers and thunderstorms increases to 50 percent, with a low around 61 and a south southeast wind of around 15 mph, gusting up to 25 mph. Rainfall amounts are expected to be less than a tenth of an inch, except for possible higher amounts in thunderstorms.

Tuesday carries a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 81. Winds will shift from south at 15 mph to west northwest in the afternoon, with gusts up to 25 mph.

As Tuesday night approaches, the chance of showers and thunderstorms remains at 40 percent, with partly cloudy skies and a low around 53. Winds will be from the north at around 15 mph, gusting up to 25 mph.

Finally, Wednesday brings a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 72, accompanied by breezy conditions.
