Cold Weather and Rainy Outlook for the Week Ahead

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The weather forecast for the upcoming days suggests a continuation of cold temperatures, with a potential for rain later in the weekend and into the following week.

Tonight's Forecast:

As skies remain mostly clear, radiational cooling will lead to a swift drop in overnight temperatures. Expect lows ranging from the mid-teens to lower 20s.

Long-Term Outlook (Saturday through Thursday):

The extended forecast anticipates persistent cold weather over the weekend, staying well below normal. There is a possibility of light rain on Sunday afternoon and night, particularly in the northern and eastern counties, requiring careful temperature monitoring.

A notable shift in the weather pattern is expected, bringing milder temperatures and periodic rain chances in the week ahead. A strong surface high will move across the mid-Mississippi Valley on Saturday, influencing east to southeast winds. Saturday's highs will be in the mid to upper 30s across the Big Country and upper 30s to lower 40s in the rest of the area. Clear skies on Saturday morning will give way to increasing cloud coverage on Saturday night.

As a series of upper-level troughs moves from California into Texas and the southern Plains, rain chances will increase from Sunday through Thursday. The first wave on Sunday will bring rising moisture levels, initiating rain chances southeast of a Sonora-Richland Springs line. The main period for showers is expected on Sunday night into Monday, with the highest probabilities in the Northwest Hill Country and Heartland counties.

Temperatures in the eastern and northern counties on Sunday afternoon and night will be closely monitored. While current projections indicate temperatures rising above freezing, there is a potential for light freezing rain in the Heartland area if cold air lingers.

Elevated thunderstorms may occur in Brown, San Saba, and eastern Mason Counties on Monday, as mid-level lapse rates steepen and lift strengthens. Rain chances will diminish from west to east on Monday, with showers likely to resume as the next wave arrives on Tuesday through Wednesday, and potentially again Thursday night into Friday.

Next week's temperatures are expected to be milder, with daily highs ranging from the 50s to lower 60s. Skies will vary from mostly to occasionally partly cloudy. Stay tuned for updates as we closely monitor these weather developments throughout the week.
