Heavy Rain & Flooding Forecast Heading into Christmas Eve

SAN ANGELO – As the holiday fervor grips the Concho Valley this weekend, drivers are cautioned to remain vigilant due to anticipated weather shifts expected to impact travel on Christmas Eve. According to forecasts, patchy fog may affect various parts of the area this morning, potentially leading to varying degrees of reduced visibility.

Additionally, a more concerning weather pattern is projected for tonight, extending into Sunday morning. Thunderstorms are likely to roll in, with some potentially escalating to severe levels. There is a 40% chance of rain this afternoon increasing to 80% tonight.  The expected severity includes hail approaching an inch in diameter, frequent lightning, and wind gusts exceeding 50 mph. Moreover, certain storm cells could produce heavy rainfall, raising the risk of localized flooding, particularly in areas situated east of a line spanning from Abilene to Brady to Mason.

Expect Flood Advisories and Flood Warnings to be issued as conditions warrant.  

Looking ahead from Sunday through the upcoming week, the potential for widespread hazardous weather remains relatively low. However, there may be lingering thunderstorms on Sunday morning, primarily impacting regions east of the Abilene to Junction line. These storm systems are projected to move away from the area by early Sunday afternoon.
