NWS: Heaviest Rain Coming Thursday Night

SAN ANGELO – Light rain continues to fall across West Texas and the Concho Valley can expect traces throughout the day Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service Office in San Angelo, the highest probabilities for rain reside in western areas of the region today and then overnight in the Big Country. While isolated thunderstorms might occur in western regions, severe storms aren't expected. Rainfall amounts will be modest initially, with the potential for heavier rainfall holding off until Thursday night when an upper low progresses eastward into the Texas High Plains. Cloudy skies are expected through tonight, with temperatures reaching mainly in the mid-50s today and dropping to the low to mid-40s tonight.

Anticipate significant rainfall of up to 2 inches in the Big Country Thursday night into Friday, potentially reaching an inch further south toward San Angelo and Brownwood. Minor street and creek flooding are the primary concerns as the system moves swiftly.

A weak cold front on Friday will usher in drier conditions. This, combined with upper-level subsidence as the low pressure system moves northeast, will result in clearing skies by Friday afternoon and evening. Saturday will be dry and cool, followed by a dry spell with a warming trend from Sunday into the middle of next week.
