Earthquake Shakes Permian Basin Wednesday

 

MENTONE, TX – The United States Geological Service reported a 5.3 magnitude earthquake in far West Texas early Wednesday morning.  Sources report it is one of the strongest ever recorded in the area.  

The USGS reported a 5.3-magnitude earthquake took place around 4.24 a.m. 23 miles west-southwest of Mentone in far West Texas. The quake was one of dozens Wednesday morning in the region, according to EarthquakeTrack.com, and the strongest in West Texas going back to Dec. 16, 2022 – when a 5.4-magnitude quake shook Midland.

Wednesday’s quake was generally in the same area of a 5.4-magnitude earthquake that took place on Nov. 16, 2022.

No reports of major damage or injuries have been reported.
