SAN ANGELO – A strong and wet cold front will sag into the Concho Valley Sunday evening bringing the first freeze of the season to the area Monday and Tuesday. On average, the first freeze occurs on Nov. 10.
According to the experts at the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, the frontal system will first enter West Central Texas Friday, stall out across the San Angelo area, return as a warm front Saturday, then barrel through as a stronger cold front on Sunday.
There is a 40% chance of rain Friday increasing to 70% Friday night. Saturday, the rain chances drop to 30% with a highs in the 70s. Saturday night the rain chance is 20% with temps in the lower 50s. On Sunday, the afternoon high will only reach around 59 degrees then Sunday night, look for temps to drop to the mid 30s in the Concho Valley and below freezing in the Big Country with a 90% chance of rain.
The Big Country and northern counties in the Concho Valley could see the first freeze Monday morning.
There is a 60% chance of rain Monday with a high in the lower 40s. By Monday night, expect the temperature to drop to 33 degrees.
Temperatures in the San Angelo area will reach the 50s Tuesday before dropping below freezing Tuesday night to 29 degrees.
No severe weather is expected over the next several days.
Now is the time to prepare for freezing temperatures. The weather is not expected to be cold enough to burst pipes, but make sure outdoor pets have access to shelter and fresh water. Move sensitive plants indoors and wrap exposed water pipes.
