2.27 Inches of Rain Overnight!

SAN ANGELO – A line of thunderstorms developed after midnight across West Central Texas and dumped 2.27 inches of rain at Mathis Field as it slowly moved off to the southeast in what could be the first of several waves of rain across the area this week. 

A much anticipated strong cold front made its way through the Big Country Tuesday morning and should reach the I-10 area around Sonora by noon bringing much cooler temperatures and upper level disturbances that are expected to create more rain.  

A severe thunderstorm passed south of San Angelo earlier in the evening dumping about .2 inches rain in the area and knocked down power lines in the area of Cactus Lane and Atlantic Road in northeast San Angelo around 11:30 p.m. according to the Tom Green Co. Sheriff's Office. Then an early morning storm hit between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. in the San Angelo area and poured 2.26 inches of rain on the airport.  

With the passage of the cold front Tuesday, another embedded disturbance is expected Tuesday night to create additional slow moving thunderstorms with significant rainfall.  Watch for flash flood advisories and warnings to be issued as the ground is already saturated and any measurable rain could create flooding of city streets and creeks and streams in rural areas.  

There is a 50% to 80% chance of additional rainfall each night through the weekend.  Temperatures will be much cooler this week with highs in the 70s and 80s and lows in the mid to upper 60s.
