SAN ANGELO – A cooler and wetter week begins Sunday afternoon across West Texas with chances for scattered severe thunderstorms ahead of an approaching strong cold front that will drop temps and raise rain chances.
The National Weather Service says there is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms Sunday evening with the primary hazards being cloud to ground lightning and powerful wind downbursts. The chance of rain is 40%. The best chances for rain Sunday are in the Big Country and northern Concho Valley.
That cold front is expected to blow into the area Monday evening bringing 1 to 2 inches of rain Monday and Tuesday region wide.
The rain chances are slightly less Wednesday through next weekend but remain significant. Any area that sees heavy rainfall Monday and Tuesday will be prone to flooding with additional rainfall throughout the week. There is a 50% to 60% of rain daily Wednesday through Sunday.
The cold front will mark the end of 100 degree days in the Concho Valley. Afternoon highs will be reduced to the upper 80s under mostly cloudy skies. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
Flooding of creeks, streams, low lying areas and urban streets will be the main concern throughout the week. We will continue to monitor the weather and update this information with new articles as necessary.
