Cold Front With Significant Rain Coming

SAN ANGELO – Rain chances begin in the eastern counties of the Concho Valley Saturday evening and could spread region wide beginning late Sunday with the best chances following the passage of a cold front Monday night into mid week. 

Federal government meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo predict rain in Mason, San Saba and Kimble counties Saturday afternoon while the rest of the Concho Valley remains hot and dry through late Sunday. 

There is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon as temperatures reach over 100 for the final time for several days, possibly even for the rest of the season. 

A significant cold front will move through West Texas Monday bringing major changes; much cooler temperatures and widespread, beneficial rainfall, and moderate flooding of low lying areas and street flooding through mid-week.  There is a 60% chance of rain Monday night with half an inch of rain possible. 

Tuesday showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue with rain chances increasing to 70% by Tuesday night.  The rain chances continue at or above 50% through next Saturday.  Total accumulated rainfall could be in the five to six inch range for areas that see the heaviest rainfall over the week. 

Temperatures will drop to the 60s at night and afternoon highs will be in the 80s. 

There is a chance for severe weather and potential flooding.  Continue to monitor weather information sources and pay close attention to advisories, watches and warnings.
