Rain Chances Dry Up as Tropical Storm Fizzles in Texas Heat

SAN ANGELO – Tropical Storm Harold was no match for the heat dome over Texas.  The storm system promised to dump rain from Brownsville to Amarillo but was no match for the ridge of high pressure and high temperatures over West Texas.

The remnants of Harold are located along the Rio Grande and will drop little or no rain north of Sonora along the I-10 corridor.  The Concho Valley will remain hot and dry.

The cloud cover associated with what's left of the low pressure system will keep afternoon high temperatures a degree or two cooler.  Highs in San Angelo are forecast at 101 and will increase going into the end of the week.

Winds associated with the low pressure system will add to the wildfire danger across the region so the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for high winds and wildfire danger from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.

A combination of dry fuels, high winds, low humidity and high temps combine to create critical wildfire conditions.  Government experts recommend no outdoor burning including welding and grilling.

There is a much higher chance for wildfires than rain across West Texas for the next seven days.
