Excessive Heat & Wildfire Warnings Through Monday Night

SAN ANGELO – That tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico will have little or no effect on temperatures in the Concho Valley this week as the hot and dry summer plods on through August.

Government Weather Experts have issued an Excessive Heat Warning and a Rangeland Fire Danger Statement for the Concho Valley Sunday and Monday afternoon as temperatures will reach 105 to 106 degrees.

Look for a Red Flag Warning Monday afternoon as the winds shift to the Northwest and increase to 15 to 25 mph and gusty.

The tropical system in the Gulf will impact areas of Texas south of the Concho Valley from the I-10 corridor to to the Rio Grande Tuesday and Wednesday.  The system will provide some cloud cover for the Concho Valley midweek but most of the rain will fall to the south and east of the region.  Afternoon high temperatures will be slightly below 100 at 99 degrees with a slight chance of rain Wednesday from Ozona to Sonora to Junction.

The same precautions need to be taken daily to combat the heat; stay hydrated, wear proper clothing, take breaks in the shade or stay in an air-conditioned room if at all possible.

Take care of pets and children when sending them outdoors as well.  Make sure they have plenty of fresh water and shade.

Never leave either in a hot car.
