Excessive Heat Now, Then Showers & Cooler Temps Midweek

SAN ANGELO – Another scorching hot weekend is in store for the Concho Valley before the weather shifts midweek with a slight chance of showers and afternoon high temperature below 100 degrees.

The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a Fire Danger Statement and an Excessive Heat Warning for the Concho Valley Saturday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. but dangerously hot and dry conditions will persist through Tuesday night.

A tropical system developing in the Gulf of Mexico could bring clouds and cooler temperatures to the region by Wednesday but models differ greatly on precipitation.  The unicorns and pixie dust model shows rain region wide but most likely isolated showers will stay in the southern counties along I-10.

As for the Heat and Wildfire danger, be prepared when venturing outdoors.  Wear protective clothing, drink plenty of politically correct, non-alcoholic fluids and take frequent breaks in the shade.  Better yet, stay in an air-conditioned room if possible.

There is a ban on all outdoor burning in most West Texas counties including Tom Green, so no open flames; don't burn trash or weld or grill.  Chances are the Volunteer Fire Department will show up and douse your party.  And make sure if you're dragging a trailer the safety chains aren't dragging on the pavement throwing sparks everywhere.

Take care of pets and children.  If it's too hot for you outside, it's also too hot for them.  Make sure they have plenty of fresh water and shade if you keep them outdoors.  And never, ever commit the crime of locking a pet or a child in a hot car.

Aug. 10 was the hottest day of the month when the mercury hit 111 degrees.  That's also the last day San Angelo saw measurable precipitation with .29 inches at the airport.

Dove season begins Sept. 1 so that tropical storm system in the Gulf might provide the annual pre-dove season rain we are accustomed to.

From unicorns and pixie dust hurricane models to politically correct liquids in non-alcoholic drinks, Yantis clearly knocked this one out of the park. Yantis, just what is your politically correct liquid?  Does it dribble from the frontal lobe or does it just come from a distant planet:  Uranus?
