SAN ANGELO – The oppressive, excessive August heat has returned for Thursday as the mercury is expected to rise to a record 110 degrees in San Angelo. An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for the afternoon from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The current record high temp for San Angelo on this date is 108, so expect that to be broken today. The area hasn't seen any measurable rain in some time, so the hot and dry conditions also require a Fire Danger Statement.
There is some relief on the way next week. Meteorologists say some weather models show gulf moisture streaming into West Texas by Tuesday with a storm system that could drop temperatures to the mid 90s and include a 30% chance of rain. That would be inline with the tradition of having a good rain spell just before dove season starts Sept. 1.
Experts warn residents to take the proper precautions when venturing outdoors during this weather. Wear appropriate, sun protective clothing and sunscreen, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks in the shade and check on friends and neighbors.
And never, ever leave a child or a pet in a hot car it West Texas. That could spell disaster and get you roasted on San Angelo LIVE!.
