SAN ANGELO – The heat dome over Texas will continue to bake the Lone Star State through next week according to in-depth analysis from the National Weather Service office in San Angelo.
According to the NWS, 'the thermal gradient remains fairly impressive' for August allowing the airmass to remain quite warm with temperatures around 110 degrees this afternoon.
The Excessive Heat Warning and Red Flag Warning have been extended through 9 p.m. Wednesday and will likely be re-issued daily through next week.
The unicorns and pixie dust weather model shows some showers in the Big Country and northern Concho Valley Wednesday evening but they will be very isolated and short lived.
The advisories remain the same each day; stay hydrated, dress properly and stay in the shade or in an air-conditioned room if possible.
Make sure the outdoor kids and pets have plenty of fresh water, shade and food. Bring them inside during the heat of the day at all possible. It's still very wrong and even deadly to leave pets or kids in a hot car. Just say no.
Wildfire danger continues to threaten all of the western half of the state. Fuels are very dry, humidity remains low and high temps combine with gusty winds daily so any wildfire that ignites could quickly burn out of control. Pleas avoid all outdoor burning including welding until the weather cools off a bit or that mid-August/Labor Day rain comes.
