SAN ANGELO – A Heat Advisory in effect since the beginning of the week will expire at 8 p.m. Wednesday, but the 100+ degree heat will continue for several more days.
National Weather Service meteorologists say temperatures and humidity levels will drop below the criteria for a Heat Advisory by 8 p.m. Wednesday but the dangerous heat will still be present.
Wednesday will mark the 37th day in 2023 where the afternoon high temperature reached or exceeded 100 degrees. The seven day forecast has high temps above 100 everyday.
Elevated wildfire weather conditions will be present as well.
Experts recommend taking precautions when spending time outdoors in the heat regardless of an advisory or warning. Stay hydrated, wear proper clothing and sunscreen, take frequent breaks in the shade and check on vulnerable friends and neighbors. Not everyone has an air-conditioned room to cool off in.
Never, ever leave a child or a pet in a locked car. Make sure all outdoor children and pets have plenty of fresh water and shade and food. Check on them frequently.
There is no rain in the forecast. The NWS says San Angelo has recorded 8.95 inches of rain so far in 2023, which is 2.37 inches below normal.
