SAN ANGELO – Friday is day 27 where temperatures reached 100 degrees or more in San Angelo in 2023 and there seems to be no end in sight.
An Excessive Heat Warning and a Fire Danger Statement remain in effect for West Central Texas Through late Saturday night and the afternoon high temperature is forecast to exceed 100 degrees for the next 14 days.
Sunday will be the 'coolest' hot day with a high reaching only 103.
Forecasters say afternoon high temperatures will range from 103 to 110 with heat index values of 112. That makes extended periods outdoors treacherous.
Still, many people have no choice but to work outdoors, so those individuals should stay hydrated, take plenty of breaks in the shade, wear suitable clothing and check on one another frequently.
Everyone else who can stay inside should stay inside preferably in an air-conditioned room. And children and pets deserve the same treatment you do, so bring them inside as well. Or at least provide them with plenty of fresh water, food and shade outside.
Never, ever leave a child or a pet in a locked car. That's beyond stupid. It's criminal.
As the 100 + degree days drag relentlessly on, the danger of wildfires increases. There are burn bans in place in Tom Green County and most surrounding counties and most thinking people know better than to burn anything outdoors in extremely dry conditions like these but some still need to be reminded.
It's hot. It's July. We live in the desert. Take the proper precautions.
