Heat Advisory Could be Upgraded as Temps Intensify This Week

SAN ANGELO – The Heat Advisory for the Concho Valley likely will be upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning by mid-week as temperatures intensify under a dome of high pressure.  The Heat Advisory is in effect Monday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. as temperatures are forecast to reach 104 with heat index values near 107.  Temps will reach 106 by mid-week before dropping a few degrees next weekend.

There is no rain in the Concho Valley forecast while there is a slight chance for thunderstorms north of Abilene Monday night.

Residents are advised to remain indoors during the heat of the day.  If you must be outside, schedule strenuous activities to the early morning or late evening hours.  Stay hydrated and wear sensible clothing.  Take frequent breaks. Check on elderly and vulnerable friends and relatives.

Make sure all outdoor pets have ample shade, fresh water and food, or bring them inside with you.  Never leave a pet or a child in a locked car in Texas; that's just stupid and criminal.

Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and take action if anyone is experiencing symptoms.
