BALLINGER, TX — The exceptional catches keep coming in the summer of 2023 at O.H. Ivie. Christoval native Jonathan Stark hauled in two bass that successfully registered on the Texas Parks and Wildlife ShareLunker Program.
The Inland Fisheries San Angelo District of the Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Facebook page said that Stark caught these fish back on June 14 at O.H. Ivie Reservoir. The first of two bass weighed in at 10.36-lb fish and was awarded the Elite status in the Share Lunker Program. The second bass was a bit smaller, 9.45 lbs, but still qualified as a ShareLunker candidate and achieved the Lunker status.
The ShareLunker Program awards different levels according to the weight of the fish caught. According to the ShareLunker program’s standards, any fish over eight lbs or 24 inches becomes part of the ShareLunker program and achieves the Lunker status. Likewise, any fish in the double digits in weight achieves Elite status, and finally, any fish caught that weighs more than 12 lbs achieves Legend status.
With summer in full swing, expect many more anglers to bring in bigger and bigger fish. Fisherman already caught several basses that fit in these categories this year, and you could be next.
