NWS Issues Severe Thunderstorm Watch

SAN ANGELO – A strong cold front will push south through the Concho Valley late Saturday bringing the threat of severe weather, heavy rain in places and much colder temperatures for Sunday.

The NWS issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the eastern counties of the Concho Valley including Tom Green County and the City of San Angelo for Saturday from 2:40 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for the formation of severe thunderstorms but no storms are currently present in the area.

According to meteorologists with the National Weather Service in San Angelo, a strong cold front will overtake a stationary front in the Concho Valley Saturday.  The best chances of rain this evening will be in the Heartland and the Hill Country.

As the colder air filters in early Sunday, showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread and the threat of severe weather will increase.  There are no watches or warnings for now.

Temperatures will drop to the upper 40s Saturday night and remain there through Monday morning. There is a 70% chance of rain Saturday night increasing to 80% Sunday region wide.

Winds will be out of the north at 15 to 25 mph, and rain totals should be around 1/4 of an inch with higher amounts with thunderstorms especially in the south and eastern counties.

Rain chances will continue through early Tuesday morning.

This is a dynamic weather situation.  Stay tuned for additional Severe Weather watches and warnings.
