SAN ANGELO – A strong storm system over the Central US Plains states is causing extremely high winds across West Texas Tuesday prompting a Wind Advisory and a Red Flag Warning for extreme wildfire danger.
According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and a Red Flag Warning for wildfire danger is in effect from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Strong and gusty southwest to west winds of 25 to 35 mph will gust to 45 mph all day. Winds that high could down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages. Temperatures will reach the lower 90s Tuesday afternoon.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Those same strong gusty winds will combine with high temperatures and very dry air with humidity levels of 5 to 15% and very dry fuels to create extreme wildfire conditions.
Any wildfire that ignites could rapidly spread out of control. All outdoor burning, including welding, is highly discouraged. There is a burn ban in place in most Concho Valley Counties as well.
A cold front will blow through the area Wednesday dropping the temperatures into the upper 60s and 70s for the remainder of the week. There will be a chance of rain Thursday and Friday.
