SAN ANGELO – A record 600 hunters and conservationists attended the 9th annual Hunters Extravaganza at the First Financial Pavilion at the San Angelo Fairgrounds Saturday hosted by the San Angelo Chapter of Safari Clubs International.
Organizers say the annual dinner and auction raised approximately $450,000 for scholarships and youth hunting programs and conservation experiences.
San Angelo SCI President Alan McClain said, "These fundraising banquets help our mission in many ways. 30% of our net proceeds from this banquet go to the National organization to help with the overall mission and in 2022, the San Angelo Chapter was #2 in the world regarding monies given back to SCI! We keep 70% to distribute locally towards our own conservation, education, and humanitarian efforts and your San Angelo Chapter has granted $854,940 from the money raised at our annual event since its inception in 2014."

"Sportsmen and women are the constant driving force behind many wildlife conservation success stories. Monies spent on hunting and fishing licenses and countless dollars spent on food, equipment, and leases, drives a multi-billion dollar industry that supports recreation and consumptive use wildlife endeavors. By measure, hunters and anglers are the most prominent and influential of all demographic groups. It goes without saying, we are an economic force for conservation." McClain said.
