High Winds, Wildfires & Power Outages Possible Valentine's Day

SAN ANGELO – A strong frontal system will howl across West Texas over the next day or so bringing high winds and thunderstorms at first, then wildfire danger and possible power outages.

According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, that strong frontal system will move into the area rapidly overnight with gusty winds increasing to 25 to 35 mph.  A line of thunderstorms should form to the southwest and move northeast rapidly through the area overnight.  It will move so fast rainfall amounts will be limited to less than a quarter inch in most places.  There is an 80% chance of rain Monday night.

A Wind Advisory has been issued for  West Central Texas from 3 a.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Tuesday.  Winds of 25 to 35 mph will gust up to 50 mph throughout the day with the passage of the frontal system.  Winds that high could knock down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages.

Travel in high profile vehicles like RVs and 18-wheelers could be difficult in the winds.  Unsecured objects will be blown around so take the necessary precautions.

Temperatures will remain seasonal through Wednesday with lows in the lower to mid 40s and highs in the mid 60s to 75 by Wednesday afternoon.  Look for temps to drop below freezing Wednesday night with afternoon highs around 50 degrees Thursday and Friday.
