NWS Issues Alerts for Dangerous Winter Storm

SAN ANGELO – A Winter Storm will blanket the Concho Valley most of the week beginning with rain showers Sunday and including significant freezing rain and snow by midweek.  

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo issued a Special Weather Statement early Sunday morning warning of a wintery mix of weather especially Tuesday and Wednesday.  

There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 3 a.m. to noon Monday. 

There is a Winter Storm Watch in effect from noon Monday to Wednesday morning.  

A cold front is moving through West Texas throughout the day Sunday bringing much colder temperatures and some rain showers.  Temperatures in the Big Country will drop to the 30s Sunday with 40s and 50s in the Concho Valley.   There is a 40% chance of rain in the Concho Valley Sunday.  

Sunday night, temperatures will plunge below freezing and freezing rain is possible region wide.  The high temperature Monday will be about 34 degrees with rain and freezing rain.  

Monday night there is a 50% chance of sleet and freezing rain with temps hovering around 28 degrees. 

Tuesday, there is a 70% chance of freezing rain before noon and rain after noon.  

Tuesday night into Wednesday morning driving conditions will become worse.  Temperatures will remain well below freezing with a 90% chance of freezing rain and sleet region wide.  Expect Winter Weather Advisories and school and business delays and possibly closures Tuesday and Wednesday morning.  

Wednesday afternoon will see temperatures rise into the lower 40s but the rain chances will continue through Thursday.
